Terms and conditions
Last updated: 12 October 2026
Plain-English summary: you pay when you order, we email your mystery within 5 days of receiving your payment and guest details, you can cancel for a full refund until we start writing, and if anything's wrong we'll put it right. The full terms are below.
1. Who we are
That Decade is a trading name of Lyndon Mills, a sole trader based in the North East of England ("we", "us"). "You" means the person placing the order or booking. Contact us using the enquiry form or by replying to any email from us. A postal address for formal notices is available on request.
2. Personalised mysteries (Personal and Personal+)
What you get
Personal (£149) is a murder mystery for up to 12 guests, plus £10 for each extra guest. Personal+ (£249) is for up to 20 guests and adds an extra twist, a printed props list and a video introduction. Both include a character pack for each guest, a host script, printable clues and a sealed solution, in the setting you choose. Everything is supplied as digital files by email. Prices include everything listed. You print what you need.
Ordering and payment
You order through our order form and pay in full at checkout. Your order is accepted when we confirm it by email. We may decline an order, for example if we can't meet your date, and we'll refund you in full if we do.
Delivery
We email your mystery within 5 days of receiving both your payment and the guest details we need. Please order at least a week before your party. If we're going to miss that, we'll tell you as soon as we know, and you can choose a full refund instead.
Your information
We write the mystery from the details you give us, so please check names and spellings. Only send in-jokes and facts your guests would be happy for us to use, and tell us about any topic to avoid. We won't knowingly include anything offensive, hurtful or untrue about a real person beyond the fiction of the game, and we may leave out anything we think could cause upset.
Cancelling and refunds
- You can cancel for a full refund at any time before we start writing. We'll email you when we start.
- Each mystery is personalised and made to your specification. Once we've started writing, you agree that you can't cancel for a refund, as permitted for personalised goods and for digital content supplied with your agreement under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
- If there's a mistake on our part, such as a wrong name or a missing pack, tell us within 7 days of delivery and we'll correct it free of charge. If we can't put it right, we'll give you a fair partial or full refund.
- None of this affects your statutory rights.
Using your mystery
You may use your mystery for your own private event. The story, characters, structure and materials remain our copyright. Please don't resell, publish or share them beyond your guests.
3. Work parties and hosted nights
Work parties and private hosted nights are quoted individually. Prices on our website are a guide. When you book, we'll send written booking terms covering the price, deposit, payment dates, cancellation and refunds, numbers, venue, food and drink, and behaviour. Those booking terms apply to your event alongside these terms.
4. Our public events
Tickets and rooms for our own events, such as launch nights and weekends, are sold under the booking terms shown when you book. All guests at hosted events must be 18 or over.
5. Enquiries and quotes
Sending an enquiry doesn't commit you to anything. A quote is valid for 14 days unless we say otherwise.
6. Our responsibility to you
We provide our services with reasonable care and skill. If we don't, we're responsible for loss you suffer that was a foreseeable result. Our total liability for a personalised mystery is limited to the price you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything that can't be limited by law. A murder mystery is a game: please play responsibly, and drink responsibly.
7. Complaints
If you're unhappy with anything, tell us using the enquiry form or by replying to our emails. We'll reply within 14 days.
8. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, or in your local courts if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
