HOW IT’S PLAYED

A ghost story for Christmas. You’re in it.

For one weekend in December, you are someone else, with a name, a past, and something to hide.

You arrive as a guest. You leave knowing who lied.

The Mordaunt Inheritance isn’t a play you watch or a quiz you answer. It’s a story you live inside, from Friday to Sunday, at a country house in the North East. Every guest is a character with a stake in the Mordaunt estate, and the answer is hidden among you.

There are no actors in the crowd and no lines to learn. Read your pack, stay curious, and decide how much of the truth to share. The Victorians told ghost stories at Christmas. This one comes with a séance.

YOUR CHARACTER PACK

Sealed. Personal. Not to be shown to anyone.

Each guest receives their own sealed pack before the weekend. A room for two means two packs, and yours may not agree with your partner’s.

THE MORDAUNT INHERITANCE
PRIVATE
That Decade wax seal
I
Who you are
Your public identity, the person everyone else in the house will meet.
II
What you are hiding
A private secret. Keep it if you can. Others will be trying to uncover it.
III
What you know
One piece of information about another guest. Useful, dangerous, or both.
IV
What you want
Three objectives, from simple to difficult, to achieve over the weekend.
THE STORY IN THREE ACTS

A dinner. A séance. An accusation.

ACT I · FRIDAY
The Arrival

You arrive at the house in character for drinks, introductions and the first dinner. The will is mentioned. Old grievances surface. Before the night is out, something has gone badly wrong.

ACT II · SATURDAY
The Séance

A day to question, trade and search, with clues turning up across the house. After dark, the family gathers for a séance, and the dead have something to say.

ACT III · SUNDAY
The Accusation

Every guest names who they believe is guilty, and why. Then the truth comes out, including the parts no one thought to ask about.

YOUR HOST

Your host never steps out of the story.

There’s no one with a clipboard reading out instructions. Your host lives in the house as a character from the moment you arrive until the final reveal, guiding the evening, keeping the story moving and bringing new evidence into play, all from inside the fiction.

Need something practical? Just ask. Your host will help, then slip straight back into character.

SOLVING IT

No single clue will convict anyone.

The mystery is built to be fair. Everything you need to solve it is in the house. But each clue on its own only hints, and the answer only holds when several threads are pulled together.

The obvious crime may not be the only one. The sharpest guests will notice an older story beneath this one.
